I like the students to brainstorm new ways of thinking about the material, and I try to let them discover the answers for themselves.

Bionics: technology from Nature

What do you like most about the subject?

It is multidisciplinary with underpinnings of creativity, inventiveness, and innovation; it is an inspiring subject.

How would you describe your teaching style?

Developing an environment where the students are self-taught through interactive discussions with the students

What else can you tell us about yourself?

I enjoy ballroom dancing, bicycling, and long-walks at the beach. I also enjoy splitting wood.

CS408 - Living in a Networked World

What do you like most about the subject?

The fact that the subject and students' interests are constantly changing, so it's never the same course twice.

How would you describe your teaching style?

I view my role as that of a qualified tour guide through unfamiliar terrain. It's my job to lead my students successfully through the course in a way that leaves them intellectually richer for the experience.

What else can you tell us about yourself?

I'm a stickler for fairness and run my classes accordingly.

Pay attention, ask questions, get started early, and don't lose sight of the fact that learning isn't only about the grades.

Economics

What do you like most about the subject?

Economics offers rational ways of thinking about the world that helps us to achieve the best from what we have.

How would you describe your teaching style?

A facilitator. I guide and direct students by asking questions, suggesting alternatives and encouraging group activities which necessitate active learning, student-to-student collaboration and problem solving.

What else can you tell us about yourself?

I like travelling, walking and hiking.

Always turn-in quality work, be responsible, participate in class discussions and take the initiative to get the most out of class.

American History

What do you like most about the subject?

American history is fascinating because it is an amalgamation of a variety of cultures and ideas. I truly enjoy discovering the intricacies of the American experience with my students.

How would you describe your teaching style?

One of my primary objectives is to help students to process information to create knowledge and understanding. I try to facilitate an analytical, discussion-based, and challenging classroom.

What else can you tell us about yourself?

Besides studying American history, I like to run, cook and frequent the local farmers’ markets. I also am a soccer and basketball fan.

Be humble; as you learn, appreciate how much more there is to know.

The ability to apply mathematics to real life problems.

How would you describe your teaching style?

Interactive. I like my students to participate and be involved in class.

I sing in a local choir in Portsmouth, NH. And spend the rest of my time reading.
